An initiative by
adidas and Parley Ocean School is a global movement that harnesses the
power of sport to raise awareness around the threat of marine plastic
pollution and inspire positive action. To date almost 1 million runners
have laced up in order to take a stand for the oceans. For every
kilometer you run, adidas shall contribute $1 to the Parley Ocean
Plastic Program.
In 2019,
RFTO is returning with the aim to continue our efforts to address the
devastating levels of marine plastic pollution.
Saturday, 15 June 2019 was my first tribe run with the Adidas
Runners (AR) Kuala Lumpur and it’s was themed event labelled “Run for the
Oceans”.
Today’s event takes place at Putrajaya Challenge Park, with registration starting at 16:00hrs. Registered participants
were each given an AR Run for the Oceans event tee, an Adidas water
cup reusble and all of us were pleasantly
surprised. After we have checked in and deposited our bags, we headed
out to the playground area to enjoy the cooling afternoon weather and take some
photos around the event site.
Today’s event was a big one with not only a big turn out by the
participants but there were some local talents from the media coming
also to support the event. The event was emcee by 103.3 FM’s Radin and partner, but im forgot she name!.
Before the event started, both the
emcee encouraged everyone to track our run using the
RUNTASTIC app as Adidas will be donating $1 USD for every kilometre for
the first million kilometer that is clocked in between 8 June to 16 June
2019. The money will then go directly to the Parley Ocean Plastic
Program to further cut into the pollution problems.
The actual run was flagged off around 17.45PM and it was lead by AR Kuala Lumpur Captains and Co-Captains with all the participants following
behind divide with group in pacer.

Marine plastic pollution is an issue for the global community, impacting
all parts of the world. That’s why RFTO is a worldwide initiative and
is continuing to expand this year with more runners in more cities than
ever before uniting in the fight for shorelines.

Once all of us had completed the run, we all treated to nice, a simple refreshment buffet That was definitely a welcomed
treat as many of us were hungry.
Overall, it was a great way to start my weekend. I’m sooo happy that I
managed to do my part in today’s event even though how small it may be.
Big thanks to Adidas Kuala Lumpur
for organising this meaningful event!
